Indexation in real estate is the process by which rents (or service or marketing fees) are automatically adjusted according to an index, usually the consumer price index or another economic indicator. The aim is to ensure that the value of the rent remains constant in real time, i.e. that the rent reflects the current economic situation, which helps to protect the property owner's income from inflation. The indexation mechanism is usually set out in the contract and is usually applied at regular intervals, for example once a year.
